Lugne

More about Lugne and surrounding area

The house is located in the beautiful hamlet of Lugne, equidistant between the villages of Cessenon sur Orb and Roquebrun. Lugne is located on the edge of the "Parc Regional du Haut Languedoc" and at the foot of an eucalyptus forest, and for those who enjoy walking and hiking there are opportunities in all directions. A bread van arrives in Lugne every morning with fresh baguettes and croissants in time for breakfast and coffee to be enjoyed on the roof terrace. Other mobile shops visit on a weekly basis and make their arrival known by honking their horn.

Roofs in Lugne

Both Roquebrun and Cessenon offer shops and restaurants as well as weekly farmers markets. Roquebrun is known as the "little Nice" on account of its exceptional micro climate. The river Orb in Roquebrun is perfect for swimming and a walk up the hillside will bring you the the "Jardin Mediterraneen", an amazing garden created from scratch by a group of volunteers some time ago, and open to the public. From the garden the views of the valley are magnificent and well worth the effort of the climb. The Canoe and Kayak base in Roquebrun caters to all levels and offers a number of different parcours. The Petit Nice restaurant has a dining room which almost overhangs the river and affords more beautiful views.

Roquebrun

Cessenon sur Orb has a good selection of shops and restaurants, and another great spot for swimming in the river, just by the bridge. Just a little outside the village at Reals is another Canoe/Kayak base.

After a ten minute drive from the house through the village of Roquebrun, you will find a quirky and relaxed tapas bar called the Blue Lizard at the foot of the village of Vieussan. There is outdoor dining under the shade of olive trees. As with most restaurants the Blue Lizard is very child friendly. This tapas bar offers a variety of specialist beers as well as local wines and fresh homemade tapas and it is extremely good value for money.

St Chinian is only 10km away from Lugne, and the centre of the local wine area. A twice weekly market bustles with producers offering their fresh fruit and vegetables in season, and the Maison des Vins stocks wines from all AOC producers in the area.

St Chinian

The nearby town of Beziers has many outdoor restaurants on the main street, which is lined with huge plane trees. The beach town of Valras Plage is bustling with tourists has a lot of fantastic seafood restaurants and tourist shops.

An hour+ drive will take you to the cities of Montpellier and Toulouse. These two historic cities make for a fantastic day trip. Lugne is in the St Chinian and Berlou wine making area, which produces superb wines. It is the centre point within the local commune and the villages of Cazedarnes, Causses et Veyran, St Nazaire de Ladarez, Ceps and Prades-sur-Vernazobre are all within a 9 kms radius.
