A country hideaway, perfect for a couple searching absolute peace and tranquility on holiday, in a beautiful setting. Les Rossignols is a tastefully renovated stone house in a picturesque hamlet overlooking the Orb Valley. Away from the crowds and noise of everyday life, yet only a short drive from the nearest village, Roquebrun, where shops and restaurants can be found.
The hamlet is surrounded by vineyards and holm oak woods, and most of the time all you hear is nature - nightingales and other birds give way to the song of the cicadas during the summer. Two terraces allow you to make the most of summer living and to soak up the atmosphere...

Les Rossignols is built against a hillside and the front door is approached via steps onto the terrace at the back of the house. This long terrace offers a shady retreat for most of the day, and here you will also be able to use the WiFi to access the internet. The door leads into the living room, the heart of the house. This light and airy room has French doors at both ends and is tastefully furnished and decorated. The northeast facing window has uninterrupted views of the Orb Valley, and just by the window is a little table with two chairs. Cane armchairs face the traditional fireplace, and the bookcase to one side is well stocked with a selection of books. A music system (radio and CD) allows you to play your favourite music whilst on holiday in Languedoc.
Steep wooden stairs lead from living room down to the ground floor
where you find the country style kitchen. It is equipped with a gas cooker with oven, double sink and fridge with freezer compartment, and supplied with everything necessary for cooking and eating. A dining table and chairs allows you to eat indoors and French doors lead from the kitchen to the lane at the front of the house.

Behind the kitchen at the foot of the stairs is a shower room with a fully tiled shower and basin. A couple of steps from the front door is the bath house - a former stable which has been converted into a bathroom with bath tub, separate shower, WC and wash basin

To the left of the front door (facing the house) a few steps lead to the second terrace, which is perfect for an outdoor breakfast, and furnished with table and chairs. Folding sun loungers are just inside the front door and the views from the terrace will entice you to linger.

A flight of steep wooden stairs lead from the living room to the bedroom at the top of the house. Another spacious room it is simply furnished with two single beds which can be pushed together, and there is plenty of built in storage. There's more than enough headroom where the beds are, but towards the ends of the room the ceiling slopes a little.
The river Orb is only a 10 minute walk away and offers superb river swimming. Trails are numerous and give you the opportunity to explore the surrounding countryside on foot. Of course you may decide simply to lounge on one of the terraces and relax...
More about Roquebrun and area
Roquebrun is a 3.5km drive away from Les Rossignols, down a narrow country lane past vineyards. In the village are two restaurants and a pizzeria, a bakery, cafe/bar, a grocery store and a tourist office, not forgetting the weekly
outdoor market on Fridays. Wine abounds and the Cooperative winery produces some very good wines, which can be tasted before buying. You can also buy wine at all of the independent wineries in and around the village. Roquebrun is well known for its microclimate and often called the "Little Nice" of Languedoc. Built against a steep hill, the village presents a beautiful picture as you approach. At the top of the hill a mediterranean garden has been created over the past decade, which is well worth a visit. At the foot of the hill the river gushes over a weir which once supplied a mill with water. now there is a long pebbly beach along the river and it's great for a swim. Also in Roquebrun is a Canoe and Kayak base, from where you can take a trip.
A little further afield are the villages of Cessenon sur Orb and St Chinian. Both are thriving communities with a selection of shops
and restaurants. Cessenon market takes place on Saturdays and St Chinian has a lively market on Thursdays and Sundays.
